Springtime Beauty Tip #8

Healthy Hair:

Avoid hot showers - the hot water will dry out your hair and fade your color. Luke warm water is best followed by a cool rinse.

Also wash hair less often to avoid stripping it of the protective oils it needs. Just rinse hair with water and apply conditioner a few times a week. You’ll notice a dramatic change in the health of your hair.

Springtime Beauty Tip #7

If you suffer from rough scaly lips, a simple do-it-yourself trick to exfoliate them takes only a finger scoop of Vaseline and an old toothbrush.

Step 1: Slather lips with petroleum jelly
Step 2: Use a toothbrush to massage in the jelly in a circular motion.
Step 3: Wipe off the excess petroleum jelly.

You are done! The toothbrush exfoliates lips while the petroleum jelly leaves lips extra soft. Repeat a couple times a day until your lips are no longer scaly.

Springtime Beauty Tip #4

Homemade Treatment for Dark Under Eye Circles

Grated potatoes can lighten under-eye circles. Potatoes contain an enzyme called catecholase, which is used in cosmetics as a human skin lightener.

Run one spud through your food processor and stuff the raw mash into a piece of cheesecloth or a handkerchief.
Apply to the area directly beneath your eye (don’t let the potato juice come get in your eye) and leave for 20 minutes.

Then just wipe away the starchy residue!

Springtime Beauty Tip #3

There are many, many types of hairstyles out there, but not all will look good on you unless the hairstyle fits the shape of your face. Below are the different hairstyles that are considered most flattering for each shape of face.

An oval face. The oval face is the perfect face. Almost any hairstyle will go with it, whether it is long or short, straight or curly. If you have an oval face, you will do well with having layers near your chin or cheekbones to draw attention to them. However, try to avoid hairstyles that add volumes to the top of your head – it will make your face look longer.

A long face. If you have a long or oblong face, you should create the illusion of width to balance it out. You can add width to your face by doing your hair with long, side-swept bangs or chin-length bobs. You will also do well with curls and waves that frame the face.

If you have a long or oblong face, you should avoid letting your hair grow extremely long or having your hair cut extremely short. Such extreme hairstyles will take the width from your face and emphasize its length.

A round face. If people with long faces need to add width to their faces, people with round faces need to take some of the width and bulk off by adding length. If your face is round you need to create the illusion of length, and to do this, you can have your hair cut just below your chin, or in graduated layers. Do not do your hair in short, one-length, blunt cuts, as it will only draw attention to the roundness of your face.

A square face. Having a square face means having an angular jaw. The hairstyle trick with having a square face is drawing attention away from that jaw. This is done by putting texture to your hair. Short curls do exactly this, as well as long layers that start just below the jawline. If your face has a square shape, you should try not to have your hair cut in one-length bobs or wear bangs that are cut bluntly. It will only emphasize the squareness of your face.

A heart-shaped face. Heart-shaped faces are pretty Valentines, but the pointed chin draws attention away from the eyes. If you have a heart-shaped face, you could bring focus to your eyes by wearing side-swept bangs, a fringe on your brow or long layers at the top. Or you could let your hair grow and have it done with layers that touch your cheekbones.

Springtime Beauty Tips

Over the next couple of weeks we will be having daily beauty tips to get you ready for springtime fashion. Even if you are not getting married this summer there is a good chance that you will be attending a wedding. The summer months are notorious for being THE wedding season.

Spring Beauty Tip #1

Here’s how to give yourself an eyebrow shapeup.

Look at the inside corner of your eye. Pick up a pencil. From the inside corner of your eye, follow a line straight up. If you’ve got an eyeliner or eyebrow pencil, mark where the line crosses your eyebrow. Do the same from the inner corner of your other eye.

If you have hair inside the two marks pluck all that hair out, but don’t overpluck. If your eyebrows don’t reach the marks above the inner corners of your eyes, then you need to fill those parts in.

Next tyour pencil and hold it against the outer corner of one of your nostrils. Hold it at an angle so that it crosses the bottom outer corner of your iris. Follow the line upward until it crosses your eyebrow. That’s where your eyebrow arch needs to be at its highest. To create an arch where there is none, gently pluck hairs from the brow bone. Always pluck from the bottom and not the top. The arch should start coming down immediately after this peak.

If this sounds like too much work, get your brows shaped first by an expert. After that, it’s easy for you to just follow the shape the stylist has given you.

Beauty: Whiter Teeth for Your Best Day

Teeth whitening is one of those quick beauty fixes that can totally change your look while knocking out your pocketbook. Who wouldn’t want nice white teeth in their wedding photos?

Here are a few inexpensive ways to obtain whiter teeth:

The strips. Crest Whitestrips Premium Plus - actually work and are actually affordable. I used these for my wedding day :)

Whitening toothpaste. The toothpaste is actually better for maintaining your white smile after you’ve whitened/lightened. So invest in some whitening toothpaste. Just remember to drink your coffee and dark sodas from a straw. And the more you brush and better it works!

GoSmile System. This bleaching tray system is a bit pricier than the strips but they work great and are easier on sensitive teeth.

If you are short on time you may have to forgo the DIY and ask the dentist for help…it will be more expensive but it might be worth it.
