Basic Registry Checklist

Registering is your chance to pick out great gifts you want and need. The traditional, classic wedding registry includes everything you need for a home, from table settings to bed sheets. Feel free to register for anything, even items not traditionally considered registry gifts. To help you start, here is a list of some items on a typical wedding gift registry.

Tableware Basics
Register for 8 to 12 place settings.

Bridal Registry Casual china typically comes in 4-piece place settings: dinner plate, salad plate, soup/cereal bowl, and mug

Fine china usually comes in 5-piece place settings: dinner plate, salad/dessert plate, bread and butter plate, cup, and saucer

You may also want to include 8 to 12 rim soup bowls, which can double as pasta bowls and 8 to 12 chargers, the charger sits under the dinner plate to add a decorative touch.

Flatware Basics
Register for the same number as place settings.

A 5-piece flatware setting includes dinner fork, knife, salad fork, tablespoon, and teaspoon

You may also want to consider a hostess set and other serveware.

Crystal & Glassware Basics
The rule of thumb is one piece of glassware per place setting, usually between 8 and 12. It's a good idea to have extras in case of breakage or if you entertain a lot. If you choose crystal glasses, include red and white wineglasses, water goblets, champagne flutes, and double-old fashioned glasses. For other types of glassware, think of what you and your mate enjoy drinking and register accordingly.
